Virtual exhibition “Boys will be boys”
EN// “Boys will be boys” is an idiom we have all heard far too often. Rooted in a toxic masculine ideal, it’s used as our culture’s justification for seemingly harmless to downright dreadful behavior. It’s a justification for an often overlooked systemic pattern of abuse. It’s a belief that belittles not only women and the LGBTQ community but also men, excuses structural violence, and ignores victims.
We as artists, writers and musicians are here to tell the stories of the good, the bad, and the ugly; to take a moment together to talk about experience and hope and think about how humanity can prevail in the face of discrimination and create a fairer world.

DE// “Boys will be boys” ist eine Redewendung, die wir alle zu oft gehört haben. Verwurzelt in einem Ideal der toxischen Männlichkeit soll er rechtfertigen, dass in unserer Kultur scheinbar harmloses, in Wahrheit jedoch schädliches Verhalten zu beobachten ist. Dies dient als Rechtfertigung für ein oft übersehenes und systemisches Missbrauchsmuster. Es ist ein Glaubensbekenntnis, das nicht nur Frauen und die LGBTQ-Gemeinschaft, sondern auch Männer herabsetzt, strukturelle Gewalt entschuldigt und Opfer ignoriert.
Wir als KünstlerInnen, SchriftstellerInnen und MusikerInnen sind hier, um die Geschichten des Guten, des Bösen und des Hässlichen zu erzählen, sich einen Moment Zeit zu nehmen, um über Erfahrungen und Hoffnungen zu sprechen und darüber nachzudenken, wie die Menschheit angesichts von Diskriminierung bestehen und eine gerechtere Welt schaffen kann.
