Open Call: Berlin Residency for Artists and Cultural Workers from Catalonia and the Balearic Islands
International Artistic Residency in Berlin by Casa Planas & Karne Kunst
Fundació Casa Planas (Mallorca) and Karne Kunst gUG (Berlin), in collaboration with Hotel Gat Point Charlie and supported by Institut Ramon Llull, have launched an international open call for artists, curators, researchers and cultural producers from Catalonia and the Balearic Islands to participate in a two-week residency in Berlin in November 2026.
The residency is designed to support artistic research, cultural exchange and international visibility for contemporary cultural practitioners interested in working between Mediterranean and European urban contexts.
A Residency Connecting Mallorca and Berlin
The programme emerges from an ongoing collaboration between Casa Planas and Karne Kunst focused on artistic mobility, curatorial exchange and the development of international cultural networks.
The selected participant will develop an artistic or research-based project connected to themes such as:
- visual culture
- tourism
- archive
- territory
- urban experience
- contemporary cultural production
The project will take place in dialogue with Berlin’s independent art scene and with the research lines developed by Casa Planas.

What Happens During the Residency?
The residency combines artistic development, curatorial mediation and public engagement.
Participants will receive:
- Accommodation at Hotel Gat Point Charlie in Berlin
- Access to Berlin’s cultural and artistic networks
- Curatorial accompaniment by Karne Kunst
- Opportunities for meetings with artists, curators and cultural organisations
- A possible public presentation, talk or exhibition at The Pocket Gallery
The Pocket Gallery is an exhibition space integrated inside Hotel Gat Point Charlie and functions as a hybrid platform connecting art, hospitality and public interaction in the center of Berlin.
About the Partners
Casa Planas (Mallorca)
Casa Planas is a contemporary art and research centre based in Palma de Mallorca focused on rethinking tourism, archive and territory from a critical and contemporary perspective.
The organisation manages the Planas Archive, containing more than 3 million photographic images and audiovisual objects connected to the history of tourism in the Balearic Islands.
Karne Kunst gUG (Berlin)
Karne Kunst is an independent contemporary art platform based in Berlin dedicated to artistic production, curatorial mediation and international cultural exchange.
Through exhibitions, residencies and public programmes, Karne Kunst supports experimental and interdisciplinary artistic practices while connecting international artists with Berlin’s cultural ecosystem.
Gatrooms Hotel
Hotel Gat Point Charlie acts as the hosting partner of the residency, integrating the programme within its cultural ecosystem in central Berlin. Through The Pocket Gallery — an exhibition space embedded inside the hotel and accessible 24/7 — the residency explores new relationships between contemporary art, hospitality and urban tourism. The hotel provides accommodation for the selected participant and supports the public activation of the project within a dynamic environment that connects international visitors with Berlin’s local cultural scene.
Institut Ramon Llull
The programme is supported by Institut Ramon Llull, the public institution dedicated to the international promotion of Catalan language and culture. Through its support, the residency contributes to expanding the international visibility of contemporary artistic and cultural practices from Catalonia and the Balearic Islands, while fostering long-term connections between Mediterranean cultural contexts and Berlin’s contemporary art ecosystem.

Applicants must:

Selection Criteria
Projects will be evaluated based on:

- Dialogue with themes such as archive, tourism and territory
- Public engagement potential
- Critical perspectives related to ecology, gender or social context
