About the Exhibition
What happens when the thorn turns against the rose?
In I Remember How it Feels to be Made of Flesh, Australian artist Ida Sophia brings together installation, performance, and sculptural works that trace how pain and endurance are passed down through matrilineal lines. From her grandmother’s and mother’s rose gardens, the thorn emerges as a recurring figure—protective and wounding, resilient yet restrictive.
Through works such as A Tyranny of Small Decisions, a walkable field of resin thorns, and the performance To Work At Wreckage, where hospitality hides quiet violence, Sophia reveals the patterns of compliance and endurance that shape intimacy, memory, and social expectation.
This is Ida Sophia’s first solo exhibition in Berlin. Curator Marcela Villanueva.
