About

Karne Kunst is a Berlin-based arts and culture initiative with a feminist agenda, founded by Marcela Villanueva in 2017. We aim to provide a platform for artists with a migration background, promote gender equality, and empower women and girls through exhibitions, cultural events, workshops, and networking opportunities.

At Karne Kunst, we believe that art has the power to challenge power structures and subvert stereotypes. By showcasing contemporary art that is socially and politically engaged, featuring local, national, and international artists, we are committed to promoting diversity and inclusivity in the art world. We strongly emphasize intersectionality, and our exhibitions feature artists from various countries and cultural backgrounds.

Our curatorial approach is characterized by a gender perspective and a focus on contemporary art that includes local, national, and international artists. We work closely with artists to create exhibitions that are true to their vision and that reflect their experiences and perspectives. We also seek to create a safe space for artists to showcase their work and to provide them with the support and resources they need to realize their artistic visions.

In addition to our work with Karne Kunst, Marcela Villanueva has founded the Verein “Sorora e.V” to network various feminist and artistic initiatives and organizations. A feminist film festival, the Vierte Welle Festival, aims to create a networking place for artists from different disciplines, activists, and women of all ages and social backgrounds.
